Dr Monia Mazigh is an author and human rights advocat. Born and raised in Tunisia, she emmigrated to Canada in 1991. She holds a PhD in finance from
McGill, worked at the
University of Ottawa, and stood as an NDP candidate in the 2004 federal election. Dr Mazigh was catapulted onto the world stage in 2002, when she campaigned for the release of her husband, Maher Arar, and then fought to re-establish his reputation.She wrote a book about the ordeal called
Hope and Despair.
The library has acquired her second novel,
Hope has Two Daughters. It's the story of a mother and daughter, Nadia and Lila. Nadia leaves Tunisia in 1984, and Lila returns in 2010, both times of political revolution.
