The War Memorial Library in Hudson is a non-profit registered charity providing a subscription library of printed and digital materials, primarily in the English language, to the residents of Hudson, Quebec and surrounding communities.Operated by volunteers, the Library is self-financing through membership fees, donations and fund raising activities. The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs.The building and the Library serve as a memorial to those in Hudson who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Adapted Library Services in Times of COVID-19

The library is offering a service of contactless loans to its members, available by appointment only, effective August 8th. 
 
You will be able to:
  • return borrowed items in a book drop box
  • request available items online via email wmlbookorders@gmail.com
  • pick up available items you requested
    • by appointment, on Saturday afternoons only, at the time you have been allocated
When should borrowed items be returned?  
On Saturday afternoons, in the drop box located on the front stairs of the library.
 
How to request items remotely?
By email to wmlbookorders@gmail.com.  Make sure you request up to five books and/or four DVDs.  We will do our best to fulfill your order and provide you with a maximum of three books and/or two DVDs requested per order. 
  • Click on “Online Search” under WAR MEMORIAL LIBRARY CATALOGUE (right side of this blog page).
  • Include the call number of each item, the title as well as the author (if applicable).
  • Indicate the time slot of your choice on Saturday.
    • early afternoon (noon - 2:00) or mid-afternoon (2:00 - 4:00)
    • your time slot will be confirmed by email on Friday
  • Submit your order by email to wmlbookorders@gmail.com no later than Tuesday at midnight.
    • You must submit your order by Tuesday, August 4th, for the first pick up on Saturday, August 8th.
Library volunteer staff will confirm by email on Friday the time your order will be ready to be picked up on Saturday. 

What to expect during your appointment?
Come to the library at your allocated time.  If you arrive late or miss your appointment, we will have to reschedule your appointment in order to ensure everyone's safety.  Unfortunately, the books will be re-shelved and you will have to resubmit your request.
  • Once you arrive at your appointed time, knock on the door and enter the vestibule to alert volunteer staff of your presence.
  • You must wear a mask upon entering and use the hand sanitizer on the shelf.
  • The volunteer will place your bag on the table located in front of the bay windows.
  • Wait until the volunteer indicates you can come through to pick up your bag and exit through the next set of doors to the outside.
Duration of loan period?
The available items you requested will be signed out in your name. 
  • Due date is 14 days for books, audiobooks and DVDs.
  • Borrowed items can be returned on Saturday afternoons in the drop box located on the front stairs of the library.
  • All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  • The library will keep your membership cards to record when items are borrowed and returned.
    • If you have not already done so, drop off your library cards on August 1st, between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, in order to place an order for pick up on August 8th.  Otherwise, you can drop them off on any Saturday.  
    • We cannot fulfill an order until we have your cards on file at the library.
    •  NOTE: If you still have any outstanding books to be returned, you can deposit them in the drop box on the front stairs when you drop off your library cards on August 1st.
NOTE:  All memberships have been extended by four months.

How is the safety of our patrons and volunteer staff ensured?
  • Volunteers will be practicing physical distancing; both patrons and volunteers will be wearing masks. 
  • Regular cleaning and handwashing will be routine throughout the library shift.
  • We recommend washing your hands after handling library materials.
  • The library remains closed to the public. 
  • We are unable to accept donations at this time.
