The War Memorial Library in Hudson is a non-profit registered charity providing a subscription library of printed and digital materials, primarily in the English language, to the residents of Hudson, Quebec and surrounding communities.Operated by volunteers, the Library is self-financing through membership fees, donations and fund raising activities. The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs.The building and the Library serve as a memorial to those in Hudson who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Write Stuff - Fiona Barton

Fiona Barton was born in Cambridge, UK. She was a journalist on the Daily Mail and Sunday Telegraph, and has worked with exiled and threatened journalists all over the world. The library has just acquired her second novel, The Child. When a newborn's skeleton is discovered on a building site, it only makes a paragraph in an evening newspaper, but for three women it is impossible to ignore. It looks at the impact of a long-buried secret on the women who have never met.

Hudson Box Office (HBO) - The Handmaid's Tale

The library has just acquired series one of The Handmaid's Tale, an American television drama series created by Bruce Miller, and based on the novel by Margaret Atwood. The plot features a dystopian future following a second American civil war, where a totalitarian, patriarchal society subjects fertile women, called "Handmaids", into child-bearing servitude. Starring Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes, the series has received numerous awards including Emmys for oustanding drama series and leading actress (Moss). For more details click here

Exceptionally, the August Book Sale starts on Saturday at 10:00 am to coincide with the Library Shoppe Art Sale and runs until Saturday, August 11th.   Summer reading is featured.

Murder Ink - William Deverell

William Herbert Deverell is a Canadian novelist, activist, and criminal lawyer. He put himself through law school by working as a journalist, served as counsel for over a thousand criminal cases and is a founding director and former president of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association. Deverell is also the recipient of multiple literary awards. His novels have been translated into 14 languages and sold worldwide.  
The library has a good selection of his novels and recently acquired Sing a Worried Song. Remember to use the Suggestion Book at the front desk if you would like to read more of his novels.
