The Write Stuff - Eva Stachniak

Eva Stachniak is a Polish-Canadian novelist, who came to Canada in 1981 to study at McGill University. She remained here after imposition of martial law prevented her from returning to Poland. After working at Radio Canada for two years, she moved to Toronto to teach at Sheridan College, and her first acclaimed novel Necessary Lies was published in 2000.  The library has just acquired her latest novel, The Chosen Maiden. Blending fact with fiction, it tells the story of the Nijinsky siblings, Bronia and Vaslav, and how Bronia fights to be recognised as a ballet dancer in the shadow of her brother, deemed a prodigy.
