February Book Sale

The February Book Sale starts on Monday, February 4th, at 2:30 pm and runs until Saturday, February 9th. Cook books are featured.

The Write Stuff - Maeve Binchy

Maeve Binchy, one of Ireland’s most popular writers, was a best-selling author who sold more than 40 million books worldwide. She wrote 16 novels, four collections of short stories, a play and a novella. Binchy was best known for her humorous take on small-town life in Ireland, her descriptive characters, her interest in human nature and her often clever surprise endings. Several of her works — including Circle of Friends and Tara Road — were turned into films. Binchy died on 30 July 2012. She was 72.

Murder Ink- Joy Fielding

Toronto-born Joy Fielding is the author of numerous novels, mysteries and thrillers. Initially seeking a career in movies, Joy moved to Hollywood briefly, before returning to Toronto to take up writing.
Fielding’s terrain as a writer is the day-to-day problems facing modern women. Often, her characters are forced to face their worst nightmares, when sudden discoveries change their seemingly untroubled lives.

E-Books

Several members have inquired about e-books and despite their popularity the library has not yet made them available. In an article today in the New York Times the following was noted: "While print books, both fiction and nonfiction, still make up the bulk of most library collections – e-books remain limited to less than 2 percent of many collections in part because some publishers limit their availability at libraries....."

Thank you members for your continued support of our fund-raising efforts throughout the year by patronizing The Shoppe and the monthly book sales. As stated in our Mission: "The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs." And we were able to increase our level of donations again this year. Recipients included; Nova Hudson, Le Pont Bridging, VS Palliative Care, Le Nichoir, Hudson Historical Society, Greenwood, Hudson Angels, La Passerelle, The Poppy Fund and the Fireman's Fund.
