Maeve Binchy, one of Ireland’s most popular
writers, was a best-selling author who sold more than 40 million books
worldwide. She wrote 16 novels, four collections of short stories, a play and a

her descriptive characters, her interest in human nature and her often clever
surprise endings. Several of her works — including Circle of Friends and
Tara Road —
were turned into films. Binchy died on 30 July 2012. She was 72.
