“The Greenwood Poets” is shorthand for a diverse collective of about 15 local writers whose efforts over the past two years have bloomed well past their humble intentions to be a poetry appreciation society. Sandra Stephenson has been leading this group at their monthly meetings in Hudson’s Greenwood Centre for Living History. It is the combination of the inspiring location in this historic house and the group’s passion for writing which allows the Greenwood Poets to continue to share and workshop their work, expand their group, respond to requests for readings in other communities, and raise sincere interest in local poets. The Greenwood Poets have taken part in Storyfest for the past 2 years, welcoming internationally-known local poets David Soloway and Karen Young. In 2009 they published their first collaboration, “Portrait of Greenwood” edited by fellow poet, Grell Grant, and have put out solo efforts as well. Yet their mandate as a group remains lowkey. As Jon Torell says: “absolutely anyone with the courage to read and bring a poem, whether or not it’s theirs, is welcome.”
Contributing Greenwood Poets including Louise Carson, Cathy Chandler, Elizabeth D’Ambrosio, Tammy D’Ambrosio, Lynn Luker, Anita Power, Sandra Stephenson, Jon Torell, and Bill Young and will read this Saturday. For information about the Greenwood Poets, please contact Sandra Stephenson:(450) 451-0906.
