The War Memorial Library in Hudson is a non-profit registered charity providing a subscription library of printed and digital materials, primarily in the English language, to the residents of Hudson, Quebec and surrounding communities.Operated by volunteers, the Library is self-financing through membership fees, donations and fund raising activities. The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs.The building and the Library serve as a memorial to those in Hudson who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Many of our members enjoy reading the Inspector Wallander series by Henning Mankell. Brought to the screen by the BBC and featuring Kenneth Branagh, Masterpiece Theatre presents Season 3 starting on September 9th. Season 1 and 2 are currently available at the library. Donna Leon is the author of the bestselling Commissario Brunetti novels set in Venice.Born in New Jersey and living the past 25 years in Venice, Leon worked as a Professor in Italy and is a leading expert on Baroque music. Her novels have sold millions around the world and have been translated into 9 different languages but, interestingly, not Italian. To link to the author's website click on the title above.
The Shoppe sells donated items at very reasonable prices every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The Shoppe is located in the library basement and may be accessed on the north side of the building.
Used Book Sale
The Used Book Sale starts the first Sunday of each month (except holidays) at 1:00 p.m. and lasts until the following Saturday. Prices are $1.00 each or 5/$4.00 for children's books, $2.00 for trade paperbacks, $3.00 for fiction and non-fiction hardcover books and 5/$2.00 for paperbacks. Donations may be delivered to the Book Donation box on the west side of the library.
Books on Wheels
War Memorial Library offers a home service for those unable to travel to the library. To have books, DVDs or audiobooks delivered by a volunteer, please call the library during opening hours at 450-458-4814 or contact the Hudson Librarian at warmemoriallibrary@gmail.com to leave your name and phone number.
