The War Memorial Library in Hudson is a non-profit registered charity providing a subscription library of printed and digital materials, primarily in the English language, to the residents of Hudson, Quebec and surrounding communities.Operated by volunteers, the Library is self-financing through membership fees, donations and fund raising activities. The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs.The building and the Library serve as a memorial to those in Hudson who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Write Stuff - Yaa Gyasi

Yaa Gyasi was born in Ghana and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writer's Workshop, where she held a Deans's Graduate Research Fellowship. She has written several short stories and the library has a copy of her debut novel Homegoing. It follows the shifting fortunes of two half-sisters Effia and Esi, unknown to each other, in West Africa and America. Esi is sold into slavery, and Effia is married to a British slavery trader. This historical novel moves from the Eighteenth century to the present day. The New York Times describes it has" a hypnotic debut novel" .

Hudson Box Office (HBO) - The Tunnel

The Tunnel is based on the original 2011 Danish/Swedish crime series "The Bridge". This British crime drama centres on British and French detectives, who are forced to work together, when a French politician and a British prostitute are found dead inside the Channel Tunnel. They later learn that the killer, nicknamed the "Truth Terrorist", is on a moral crusade to highlight many social problems, terrorising both countries in the process. Murder Ink - Susie Steiner

Susie Steiner began her writing career as a news reporter first on local papers, then on the Evening Standard, the Daily Telegraph and The Times. In 2001 she joined the Guardian, where she worked as a commissioning editor for 11 years. Her first novel Homecoming, described as 'truly exceptional' by the Observer, was published by Faber & Faber in 2013. She lives in London with her husband and two children.

The Write Stuff - Ashley Hay

Ashley Hay is a Brisbane-based Australian writer,who holds a senior research fellow position at Queensland University. She has written four books of narrative non-fiction and two novels. The library has recently acquired her award winning second novel, The Railwayman's Wife. Published to critical acclaim, the novel is set in New South Wales. Amidst the strange, silent aftermath of World War 11, a widow, a poet and a doctor search for lasting peace and fresh beginnings.

Hudson Box Office (HBO) - John Adams

John Adams is an American television miniseries adapted from David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize winning biography. This lavish seven-part miniseries chronicles the life of founding father John Adams, beginning with the Boston massacre of 1770, through to his term as president, and his death in 1826. Murder Ink - Paul Doiron

Paul Doiron is Editor Emeritus of Down East: The Magazine of Maine, having served as Editor-in-Chief from 2005 to 2013, before stepping down to write full time. A native of Maine, he attended Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in English, and he holds an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College. Doiron is also a Registered Maine Guide specializing in fly fishing and lives on a trout stream in coastal Maine with his wife.

The Write Stuff - Kevin Kwan

Kevin Kwan was born and raised in Singapore, and moved to the U.S. when he was eleven. He obtained a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Houston, before moving to Manhattan to pursue fine arts. He set up a successful company producing high quality visuals for clients, such as MOMA and the New York Times. Throughout his career he never lost his passion for books, and his critically acclaimed novel Crazy Rich Asians,came out in 2013 and became a bestseller. This outrageously funny novel tells the story of three super rich pedigreed Chinese families. It is currently being made into a feature film. Hudson Box Office (HBO) - Reign

Reign is an American historical, fantasy, romance TV series about Mary, Queen of Scots, created by Stephanie Sengupta and Laurie McCarthy. The first season sees Mary travelling to France to marry Prince Francis, in order to secure Scotland's strategic alliance with France. She has been engaged to him since she was six. The match isn't signed and sealed however, but relies on politics, religion and secret agendas, rather than affairs of the heart. Murder Ink - Maureen Jennings

Born in England, Maureen Jennings emigrated to Canada as a teenager. She attended the University of Windsor where she attained a BA in philosophy and psychology. Jennings is best known as the author of the Detective Murdoch series, which has been turned into a television series, Murdoch Mysteries, now shown around the world. The Detective Inspector Tom Tyler series, set in World War II-era England, got off to a spectacular start with Season of Darkness, followed by Beware This Boy and No Known Grave.  The Library has these novels and acquired her most recent Dead Ground in Between.

The Write Stuff - Amy Jones

Born in Halifax N.S. Amy Jones won the 2006 literacy prize for Short Fiction, and was a finalist for the 2005 Bronwen Wallace award. She now lives in Thunder Bay where she is the associate editor of The Walleye ( Thunder Bay's arts and culture magazine).
The library has a copy of her first novel "We're All in This Together" which tells the story of a dysfunctional family plunged into chaos when the matriach , Kate, survives plummeting over a waterfall in a barrel. It is all captured on a video which goes viral. The novel is funny and heartfelt, and described as a complicated layering of timeshifts and pespectives, as each family member reveals their inner emotions and personal histories.

Hudson Box Office (HBO) - Shetland

Shetland is a BBC Scotland murder mystery series set against the stunning background of the Shetland Islands. It stars Douglas Henshall as Chief Inspector Jimmy Perez, and the series is based on the novels of Ann Cleeves. The Guardian has described it as "a gripping detective story" to rival Wallander. Murder Ink - John A. Connell

John Connell spent years working as a cameraman on some of the biggest films and television shows, including Jurassic Park and NYPD Blue. He loved the travel, the excitement, and the art of bringing stories to the screen but longed to move from behind the scenes helping bring to life someone else’s story, to writing his own. His novel, Ruins of War, a unique historical thriller set in postwar Germany garnered national acclaim. 
Connell now lives with his wife in Madrid, Spain, where he is currently working on the third book in the Mason Collins series.
