War Memorial Library presents cheque donations to 15 local worthwhile causes.

These monies are the result of careful expenditure by our library volunteers, the dedicated hard work of our amazing Shoppe volunteers who prepare the weekly Saturday morning sale as well as our loyal customers who purchase the donated items at very reasonable prices – true community spirit!

A third generation Japanese Canadian, Lynne Kutsusake worked as a librarian at the University of Toronto for many years, specialising in Japanese material. Her short fiction has appeared in The Dalhousie Review.
The library has just acquired her first novel, The Translation of Love. This fascinating book is set against the backdrop of post-war Tokyo. A newly repatriated Japanese-Canadian girl helps a classmate find her missing sister. Told through rich, interlocking story lines, The Translation of Love shows how war shapes the lives of the occupiers and the occupied,and how friendship and love transcends culture and borders. Hudson Box Office (HBO) - Line of Duty

Line of Duty is an award-winning British police television drama series. It focuses on the anti-corruption unit investigating the police service itself. The library has just acquired the fourth series, which as always is full of plot twists and suspense. The series stars Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Thandie Newton, and is well worth watching. Murker Ink - Cate Holahan

Cate Holahan is the USA Today Bestselling author of Lies she told, The widower's wife and Dark turns.

An award-winning journalist and former television producer, she has written for Businessweek, The Boston Globe, and The Record newspaper. Her short fiction won first place in the 19th annual Calliope competition, a magazine published by the writer's group of American Mensa.

The library has acquired her most recent novel, Lies she told.  Please use the Suggestion Book at the front desk if you are interested in her previous novels.
